Today I have a guest blogger, @Tang18, who has written her first blog to see if she likes it. I did, so I hope you enjoy this round up of Gadget Show Live.
As a fairly recent convert to the Gadget Show I did wonder if the Gadget Show Live! would all be a bit too ‘gadge’ for a mum of two who does not own an ipod…
I say recent convert, but in fact it’s been creeping up slowly over the past two series. What started out as ‘fast-forwarding to the camera bits’ is now a fully-fledged series link, know the competition text number off by heart, weekly fix!
Admittedly the games features don’t do to much for someone still referring to them as ‘computer games’ but a useful best buy top 5 or a fabulous record attempt such as last Monday’s ‘hold your breath’ mind power car lifting escapade gets me quite giddy.
Yes, I did head over to the signing area to catch a glimpse and a mediocre photo of the presenters and got far too excited when I saw, as my daughter would say “for real life” a Dyson Animal; but what my visit gave me more than anything was reassurance that my knowledge of tech is not half bad!
The experience was enjoyable window shopping – now I know what music system to purchase (no, not the one pictured) – and a rare chance to ‘mooch’ with my partner minus much-loved children. That aside, I felt a sense of belonging and understanding that was certainly unexpected. Terms such as ‘augmented reality’ meant something to me!
OK, so one of the most enjoyable areas was the ‘retro corner’, Speak and Spell alongside an atari, with Dads explaining to disinterested sons “I used to play on one of these when I was a boy” but I felt at home in what I thought was an alien environment. Thank you Gadget Show for educating this almost 40 year old Oxfordshire Mum!
If nothing else, found a great gift of Miss Kitty headphones for my girl!
@Tang18 doesn’t have a blog of her own as yet, she may do soon, but she is taking part in the DIVA100 charity cycle ride with Davina McCall in Sussex on 8 May – you can sponsor her right here.
